Abstract

The Algerian novel written in the French language during the period of French colonialism emerged as a bright page in modern Algerian literature, committed to conveying the issues of the homeland and portraying the concerns and aspirations of the people. These novels succeeded in securing for themselves a prominent position within world literatures, as most of them were translated into several international languages.

In this research paper, I will focus on the presence of the tragic tendency in the events and themes of these novels through three important models: The Forgotten Hill by the Algerian novelist Mouloud Mammeri,The Fire by the Algerian novelist Mohammed Dib, and Nedjma by the Algerian novelist Kateb Yacine
