Abstract

Plants are continuously exposed to environmental stresses that can limit growth, reproduction, and survival. Drought, high and low temperatures, salinity, flooding, nutrient deficiency, excessive light, and toxic substances can disrupt water relations, photosynthesis, metabolism, and cellular integrity. Plants have evolved a wide range of morphological, physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses that help them tolerate or avoid stressful conditions. These responses include changes in root and leaf structure, stomatal regulation, osmotic adjustment, antioxidant activity, hormonal signaling, and stress-responsive gene expression. This paper examines nine major dimensions of plant adaptation to environmental stress, including water stress, temperature stress, salinity, flooding, nutrient limitation, oxidative stress, physiological regulation, genetic adaptation, and agricultural applications.
