E-commerce has become a major force in the transformation of contemporary business and commercial activity. The expansion of internet connectivity, smartphones, digital payments, online marketplaces, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and integrated logistics has changed the manner in which businesses create, deliver, and capture value. Traditional business models, which historically depended on physical stores, geographically limited markets, direct customer interaction, and conventional distribution channels, are increasingly being challenged by digital alternatives. At the same time, the development of e-commerce does not necessarily imply the complete replacement of traditional commerce. Increasingly, businesses are combining physical and digital channels through omnichannel and hybrid business models. Research on e-commerce indicates that online platforms can expand market access, facilitate cross-border transactions, improve convenience, and generate valuable customer and market data. The OECD has also highlighted the evolution of platform-based, subscription-based, and online-offline e-commerce models. Recent studies further suggest that traditional markets can be transformed rather than simply eliminated when digital technologies are integrated with existing commercial strengths. This paper examines the impact of e-commerce on traditional business models, focusing on changes in value creation, customer relationships, marketing, pricing, distribution, supply-chain management, competition, and organizational strategy. It also examines the challenges faced by traditional enterprises, including technological investment, cybersecurity, employee skills, organizational resistance, and changing customer expectations. The paper argues that successful adaptation increasingly depends on strategic integration of digital and physical capabilities rather than choosing exclusively between online and offline commerce.
